This is a quick and fun project known as "the leaders nose"
. Its a prop copy from the Woody Allen movie "Sleeper" . Set in the future
the "Great Leader's" nose and DNA are kept alive after he is blown up by
terrorists. To keep this nose alive and to prevent nose runs the atmosphere
in the dome must be maintained at an exact level ( 78% nitrogen, 21%
Oxygen). |
| |
| I put this together
for my brother who is a fan of the film. It is made from a plastic toy
case (dome), walnut wood, slate base, rubber nose, your 64 strand and 32
strand fiber optic cables, two 3mm super bright LEDs, 2 pieces of shrink
tubing, two 180 ohm 1/4 watt resistors, and one used 12v 230ma phone
charger. (I never throw away any of those ac/dc converters
that come with all kinds of devices from phones to rechargeable toys and
tools. They are great for projects. Typically they put out
different voltages from 3 to 24 volts.)
No switch required. Just plug it in.

I attached the Super bright LED (3 mm or 5 mm) to the
end of your cables via a small piece of heat shrink tubing. You can
accomplish the same task using a bunch of cut cables of various strands
held together with shrink tubing. The light in the picture is from the
bottom of the LED. The top of the LED is aimed at the end of your cable
via the shrink tubing.

Thanks for the fast order service and for the quality of
your products. I also appreciated that you included a small sample pack with
my order. I will be ordering more of your fiber optic cable product very
soon. |

| The Fiber Optic
Store writes: "Hey Kevin, thanks for sharing! I guess you could say
that you 'have a nose' for working with fiber optics." (Sorry...
you knew someone had to say it!)
